The Rossoneri have not been firing on all cylinders this season and Carlo Ancelotti is under huge pressure after two defeats from the first two Serie A outings.
And now it looks like Milan will have to do without Azzurri international Pirlo for some crucial games.
A statement from the club's doctors states that: “Pirlo has a torn muscle in his right thigh and will undergo further tests on Friday.”
Pirlo will now miss the Diavolo's opening UEFA Cup challenge against Swiss side FC Zurich and could be out for as long as a month.
The news will come as a further blow to Ancelotti, who survived a two-hour crisis meeting with Vice-President Adriano Galliani yesterday.
